When planning your landscaping, consider mixing several boxwood varieties that offer a unique "look".
American Boxwood – the most popular of the boxwood (Buxus Sempervirens)
English Boxwood – more formal, slow growing (Buxus Sempervirens ‘Suffruticosa’)
‘Justin Brouwers’ – very slow grower and new to the boxwood market, becoming very popular
‘Wintergreen’ – popular for fast growth and big leaf – color remains thru winter
‘Green Mountain’ – very hardy with small, dark green leaves
‘Green Velvet’ – grows horizontally, does not grow above 3 feet, good winter color
Buxus ‘Glencoe’ (Chicagoland Green® Boxwood) – known for cold hardiness, good winter color, oval-rounded growth pattern
‘Green Gem’ – especially suited for northern landscapes, globe shape growth
‘Rotundifolia’ – round leaf boxwood (leaves almost quarter coin size), fast grower (4-7” a year)
Buxus Harlandii Hance – wonderfully unique boxwood, grows low and mound in shape, extremely long and narrow leaves, hardy grower
Buxus Microphylla – Japanese Variety – fast grower, used for hedges, grows fastest in warmer climates
